Dr. Kuan Chee Sian

Director of NeoGenix

Dr Kuan is the founder and Managing Director of NeoGenix Laboratoire Sdn Bhd and NeoGenix Evo Sdn Bhd with 20% stake in the company. He is also medical advisor of The Malaysian Cancer Foundation. He has in-depth experience in business management, laboratory set-ups as well as R&D in life sciences. He has also written 30 international medical sciences articles and recognised via various awards and accreditations.

Dr. Kuan Chee Sian obtained his Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) (Biomedicine) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), specializing in molecular and cell biology. He has in-depth experience in business management, laboratory set-ups as well as R&D in life sciences. He has two-year experience as Postdoctoral researcher in University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC)/ University Malaya (UM) before venturing into the commercial sector as an entrepreneur.

Dr. Kuan was also noted to have established the first private COVID-19 molecular laboratory in Malaysia with the capacity of 3,000 testing per day. NeoGenix is one of the first four private laboratory approved by Ministry of Health (MOH) in February 2020 and also the first private lab to detect positive case on 26th February 2020. NeoGenix also works together with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Johor State Government, Johor State Department of Health, and Immigration Department of Malaysia to set up Standard of Procedures for special travel arrangements to facilitate essential travel between Malaysia and Singapore to ensure the safety of travelers and public health through the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA).

Dr. Kuan was recently awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians 2020 in Medical Innovation by Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia). He is actively collaborating with pharmaceutical and diagnostics industries to evaluate for more than 30 molecular diagnostic assays and develop an Integrated Fungal Genome Database and Taxonomic Engine with his research team.
